Termas de Chaves Begin Low Season for Wellness with a Historic Record of Spa-Goers

Between 1 January and 31 August, more than 30,000 visitors passed through the Flaviense Spa. The new Low Season for Wellness, running from 15 September to 14 July 2026, is expected to further boost demand in this segment.

Termas de Chaves begin their Low Season for Wellness today, at a time marked by unprecedented demand. From 1 January to 31 August, the Flaviense Spa welcomed 30,271 visitors, surpassing the 13,612 recorded throughout 2024. The Wellness area experienced the greatest growth, with 28,041 spa-goers, and the trend continues upward. With more affordable prices, the Low Season promises to attract even more visitors and new audiences.

For Nuno Vaz, Mayor of Chaves, the results achieved reflect national recognition and a continuous commitment to innovation. “The opening of the Aquae Salutem Thermal Complex and the distinction with the Five Stars Regions Award reinforce the excellence of Termas de Chaves and consolidate its relevance in the Portuguese thermal landscape. These milestones allow us to communicate more effectively, reach new audiences, and affirm Termas de Chaves as a unique destination for health and well-being,” he stated.

In July and August alone, the Wellness area received over 12,700 spa-goers, consolidating its position as the fastest-growing segment and reflecting the growing demand for relaxation and leisure services. From January to August, this area recorded a historic 345% increase compared to the same period last year. Therapeutic Thermalism also followed a positive trend, with 2,230 visitors up to August — an increase of 1.2%.

According to Brigite Gonçalves, Administrator of Termas de Chaves, “the numbers speak for themselves. 2024 had already been the best year ever, and we surpassed that record in just the first eight months of 2025. This performance reflects the dedication of the entire team and gives us confidence to continue attracting more visitors until the end of the year, with the start of the Low Season for Wellness,” she revealed.

The data confirm a steady upward trajectory year after year. In 2023, the Flaviense Spa recorded 11,598 visitors (28% more than in 2022) and reached a new record of 13,612 in 2024. In 2025, that figure was surpassed within the first eight months, with 30,271 visitors by August, consolidating the growing popularity of the Flaviense Spa.

The Low Season for Wellness, starting on 15 September, runs until 14 July 2026, offering more affordable prices on experiences and treatments in the area.
